Abstract:
The invention discloses a method for synthesizing glyceryl formal by reacting glycerol with formaldehyde. The method uses a functionalized ionic liquid as a catalyst, and an aqueous formaldehyde solution and glycerol as reactants to synthesize a glycerol formal compound. The invention has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, high product yield, high proportion of six-membered ring products, and reusable catalyst.

acetylacetone and formaldehyde form a yellow compound in acetic acid-ammonium acetate medium, which has a maximum absorption at 411 nm. When the content of formaldehyde in the colorimetric solution is less than 4 μg/mL, it conforms to Bill's law, and the linear correlation coefficient R2 = 0.999 9. The relative standard deviation is 0.68% ~ 1.62% and the recovery rate is 91.2% ~ 93.8% for 6 times of parallel determination. The method is simple, rapid, accurate and reliable for the determination of free formaldehyde in glycerol formaldehyde.

Abstract:
The present invention describes the preparation of fatty acid esters of glycerformal by transesterification of triglycerides and glycerformal in the presence of an acid or base catalyst. Or by esterification of fatty acids previously obtained by hydrolysis of triglycerides (lipolysis) with glycerol formal.
The present invention also describes the use of these fatty acid esters of glycerol formal prepared by the process as a biofuel. In one embodiment, such biofuels are used for the preparation of other biofuels by mixing them with a product selected from the group consisting of: glycerol formal, biodiesel, diesel oil extracted from petroleum and mixtures thereof. The biofuel thus obtained is characterized in that it is possible for the glycerol obtained with existing biodiesel production processes to be fully incorporated into the biodiesel fuel.

1. A process for the preparation of a biofuel wherein the total content of components (I) and (II) is equal to or higher than 85% w/w, wherein R is an alkyl chain of a fatty acid, the method comprises the following steps:
